Why I Talk to Myself (But I’m Not Crazy)

Hope your week is going well. I’ve been breaking down how I spend my quiet time with God, and this is the next part of that short series.

Confession time: I talk to myself. 😜

After I’ve spent some time reading the Word, I usually move into speaking the Word.

Simply declaring the truth from God’s Word over my life, my wife’s life, and our family’s lives.

I’ve typed out these scriptural declarations ahead of time and grouped them by topic – health, marriage, calling, work, finances, encouragement, etc. They’re rooted in Scripture and help keep my heart and mind focused on what God says is true.

I don’t go through all of them every day.

I just speak through whatever the Holy Spirit leads me to for that day.

Here are a few of the daily ones my wife and I speak early in the morning (usually on the drive to the gym):

“The joy of the Lord is my strength.”

“Greater is He that’s in me than He that’s in the world.”

“We are more than conquerors.”

“No weapon formed against us shall prosper.”

And here are a few examples of the topical areas with some declarations included:

Family
“But as for me and my house (my family), we serve the LORD.”

Health
“By Jesus’s stripes we are healed, healthy, whole, and strong.”
“We are strong in the Lord and the power of His might.”

Finances
“The blessing of the Lord makes us rich and He adds no sorrow with it.”

Favor
“Thank You Lord…your favor is chasing us down and surrounding us as a shield.”

I’m not trying to hype myself up.

And it’s not baseless positive self-talk…

I’m using my spiritual authority to align myself with God’s truth and His promises.

I’ll definitely talk more about the power of words in the future, because this is a discipline (and mindset) that has brought some of the most positive and impactful changes to my life.

Do you make declarations over your life? If so, what are some of your favorites?

If not, is this something you’d like to start doing?

Hit reply and let me know.

I hope that helps and have a super week!

David

🙋‍♂️ Personal Life

A friend came over to help my wife and me up our at-home latte game, and it turned into a fun little coffee masterclass. Amber’s now frothing milk like a pro and has earned the title of “Head Barista” at Café Peairs 🤣
