Happy New Year and welcome to 2026!
How did you spend your Christmas & New Year’s holidays?
After Amber (my wife…in case you didn’t know ☺️) finished up being a big part of our church’s Christmas Eve services, we chilled out and relaxed for about 1 1/2 weeks. It was wonderful!
Now that 2025 is over…how do you feel about how it turned out?
Prior to the end of the year, I was feeling pretty disappointed about it. There were goals I didn’t hit, things I didn’t finish (or start), progress that felt slower than I wanted.
Maybe you’ve felt that way too. Like another year flew by and you can’t point to anything significant you actually accomplished.
But then something happened…
One morning in my quiet time, God started talking to me about my year. That wasn’t even what I was praying about, but He started showing me what I’d completely missed.
He began pointing out all these things I’d done, learned, and grown through in 2025. Things I’d forgotten about. Things I’d minimized. Things I never gave myself credit for.
It actually made me tear up a bit.
I realized I’d been so focused on what I hadn’t done that I completely overlooked what I had done.
Here are some things from my 2025 that God reminded me of:
- Got 2 colonoscopies (with a polyp removed), adjusted my eating and cardio, and lost weight (before the holiday overeating😮)
- Finished my last class for coaching certification and worked with my first coaching client
- Created 28 YouTube videos (more than I’ve done since 2019)
- Exceeded my quota for last fiscal year in my job
- Changed churches and got asked to help lead a small group
- Gave more financially than we ever have before
And that’s just a small snapshot of my year!
When I looked at it all laid out like that, I went from feeling defeated to feeling grateful. From discouraged to confident.
I was further along than I thought.
So here’s what I want to ask you: What did you actually accomplish in 2025?
Not what you didn’t do. Not where you’re not at yet.
What have you done?
Sometimes we need to stop and let God show us. Because most of us are way too hard on ourselves, and we miss what He’s been doing in our lives.
So take a few minutes this week. Get quiet, ask Him to show you, and write down what comes to mind. You might be surprised at how much you’ve actually accomplished when you stop to look.
Philippians 1:6 says, “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.“
God’s been working in your life all year long.
Don’t let disappointment blind you to His faithfulness.
Your year wasn’t wasted. You’re further along than you think.
Praying and believing with you for an amazing 2026!
David
