Do you ever feel stuck spiritually?
Maybe you feel stagnant.
Maybe like you’re in a dry season.
Maybe it feels like God isn’t even listening… or like He’s gone quiet on you.
You know what? You’re not alone.
I’d venture to say the majority of Christians have probably felt this way at one time or another.
So let me reassure you of this:
God hasn’t left you.
He’s not withholding Himself.
He’s not testing you just to see how you’ll handle it.
And the great thing is – you don’t have to stay stuck.
Let’s walk through some practical things that can help you get back into spiritual alignment and draw closer to God again.
Don’t Isolate Yourself
When we’re feeling stuck, one of the first things we can tend to do is pull away from people.
We stop showing up. We keep it to ourselves. We think, “No one else feels like this.”
Don’t do that.
There’s a great quote by Jim Rohn:
“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”
If everyone around you is stuck spiritually… guess where you’ll end up?
So get around some faith-filled people who are strong in their walk with God.
Ask questions. Learn from them. Let them speak life into you.
Sometimes just being around someone else’s fire can relight yours.
The enemy would love nothing more than for you to get apart from other believers.
He wants you to feel alone. He wants you to feel like you’re less of a Christian than others.
Don’t fall for it.
Stay connected to people who can speak truth into you – even when you don’t feel like it.
Revisit God’s Last Instruction
Sometimes we feel like God’s not talking to us about a certain subject because…
we haven’t even done the last thing He told us.
I’ve had conversations with God where He’s said,
“Why would I need to talk to you about the next step when you haven’t even done the step prior to that?”
It makes sense.
Obedience often brings clarity.
So let me ask you – what’s the last thing God put on your heart?
If there’s something He said to do… do that.
Speak Life: The Power of Words
I say this a lot, but your words matter.
If you’re waking up every day thinking, “I’m stuck,” or “I can’t feel God,” and that’s all you’re speaking… no wonder your spiritual life feels stagnant.
Don’t let your feelings dictate what you speak.
Speak Scripture. Speak truth. Speak hope.
Even if you don’t feel like it (or don’t feel like it’s true)… speak the Word.
My wife and I do this every morning on the way to the gym. Some of the first things we speak over ourselves are scriptural declarations.
“The joy of the Lord is my strength” – that’s a big one for us.
Declaring God’s truth over your life changes your perspective… and that can change your feelings too.
Serve Others
Sometimes breakthrough comes when we shift our focus from ourselves to somebody else.
Look for someone to bless.
Even if you feel like you’re in a dry season, shift your focus.
Move from that inward thought of “I feel dry, I feel stagnant” to “How can I bless somebody today?”
I find so many times – when I encourage someone else, I get built up too.
I get excited. I get passionate again.
Serving shifts your focus and invites joy back into your life.
Even small acts of kindness can make a difference.
Let someone ahead in line. Smile at a stranger. Send an encouraging text.
Lean Into God: Understanding Prayer
Finally (and most importantly) lean into God.
Talk to Him about why you feel stagnant.
A lot of Christians don’t really understand what prayer is.
We think, “I’m doing the right things. I’m reading my Bible. I’m praying.”
But we still feel stuck.
That’s usually because we’ve made prayer a one-way conversation.
We talk. We ask. We plead… and then we’re done.
That’s not a relationship.
And that kind of pattern will eventually lead to a stale spiritual life.
Prayer isn’t just asking for stuff.
That’s part of it – but not all of it.
Prayer is communion.
It’s fellowship with God.
It’s a conversation.
And what a lot of Christians miss is the listening part.
I’ve been guilty of that in the past too.
But now I try to be intentional with it.
I’ll just sit at my desk, open my journal, and get quiet.
Then I wait. I listen. And I type whatever I feel He’s saying.
It’s always good. Always encouraging. Always full of love.
So let me challenge you – next time you pray, stop talking, and take the time to…
Just sit and listen.
Because He wants to talk to you too.
Don’t Give Up
Something good can come out of this season if you don’t give up and if you keep trusting Him.
Instead of dwelling on “Why am I stuck?” — ask:
“What can I learn from this?”
“How can I grow closer to God?”
God’s not punishing you.
He’s not taking His Holy Spirit away from you.
The Holy Spirit is still in you.
And He wants to fellowship with you.
He wants to talk with you.
Let Him.
I hope this encourages you. Have a super week!
David
P.S. If something in here hit home, reply and let me know. I’d love to pray for you this week. 🙏
