Earlier this year, my wife and I took a little getaway to Redding, California, to slow down, recharge, and listen to God.
After a worship conference, we decided to extend our stay, rent an Airbnb, and just rest.
We recorded a video to share more about this experience! Watch it here on YouTube.
Benefits of Rest
1. Rest Helps You Hear God More Clearly
Life is busy, and the hustle can drown out God’s voice. That’s why we needed this retreat—to hit pause, step away from the noise of everyday life, and truly listen.
In that stillness, we were able to hear God’s voice more clearly. Not only did He give us direction, but He also renewed our motivation for the road ahead.
Pro tip: Even a coffee shop break or a quiet walk can help you disconnect from the grind and reconnect with Him.
2. Rest Isn’t Lazy—It’s Productive
The world tells us to hustle harder, but God reminds us that He wants to give us rest.
I get it; resting can feel like you’re doing nothing. But that’s not the case. Rest is like charging your phone—you’re not much good when your battery is down to 2%.
It’s not laziness—it’s fuel. We’re learning that rest isn’t just a break from work; it’s preparation for what’s next.
After our retreat, we came back with more clarity, renewed energy, and feeling ready to hit the ground running.
Final Thought
So, when’s the last time you took a break to rest and listen?
If it’s been a while, or if you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed, maybe it’s time to schedule some space in your calendar to relax, recharge, and hear from God.
Remember: sometimes, the most productive thing you can do is slow down, breathe, and listen to the Holy Spirit.
