You ever have a day where everything you planned to do gets completely thrown off?
You finally feel like you’re gaining traction in what God’s called you to do. You’re ready to take that next step. Then something unexpected happens that pulls you away from everything you had in motion.
That was me last week. I was almost ready to record my latest video (that needed to be published the next morning), when I got a call.
My wife’s car battery had died.
Before I knew it, at least a couple of hours were gone.
My momentum? Gone too.
Now that might not seem like a big deal, but if you’ve been trying to stay consistent in something God’s called you to do…you know how discouraging it can be.
I then had a choice to make:
Was I going to let a setback derail the consistency I’d been working so hard to build
Or was I going to show up anyway?
Here’s the thing – the enemy loves to interrupt progress.
He doesn’t always stop us head-on. Sometimes, he just slows us down long enough for discouragement to kick in and do the rest.
But we don’t have to let him win!
If you’ve been feeling thrown off or delayed in what God’s called you to do, I want to share a few reminders that helped me reset, reestablish my momentum, and stay faithful to what God called me to do.
How to Overcome Setbacks in Your Calling
📍 1. A delay doesn’t mean it’s over
Just because it didn’t go as planned doesn’t mean God’s done with it.
Your purpose isn’t tied to a perfect schedule.
Instead of dwelling on what didn’t happen, ask God how you can stay committed and move forward now.
📍 2. Progress matters more than perfection
You don’t have to wait for the right mood or ideal timing
Just show up and take the next step. Even if it’s small. Even if it’s not polished.
Today’s effort is better than tomorrow’s regret.
📍 3. Recognize the resistance for what it is
The enemy wants you distracted, discouraged, and drained.
But you have the authority, so (as I mentioned earlier) refuse to let him win!
Declare this: “I’m still showing up. I’m still doing what God called me to do. And I’m doing it with joy.” 💪
I talk about this a bit more in my latest video. If you missed it, you can:
So let me ask you…
How do you push through when things don’t go as planned?
Reply back or drop a comment on the video and let me know.
And no matter what’s tried to throw you off lately…your calling is too important to let a bad day derail you.
